What is an implant?

dental implant; These are titanium screws placed in the jawbone so that we can replace the lost teeth with a new tooth. These screws act as artificial tooth roots and allow us, the physicians, to design comfortable prostheses for our patients. The missing teeth are filled with prostheses suitable for the patient, such as crowns and bridges placed on the implants. Aesthetic, function and phonation (speech) disorders caused by the patient’s tooth loss can be corrected with the prostheses we make with the help of implants.

To Whom Can Implant Treatment Be Applied?

Implant treatment can be applied to individuals who are in good general health, have healthy gums and bone mass that will surround the implants in the jawbone, and have completed their jaw and facial development over the age of 18.

Who Cannot Be Applied to Implant Treatment?

Young individuals who have not completed their growth and development

Individuals who have undergone radiotherapy to the head and neck region

Those with uncontrolled systemic disease

Individuals who smoke a lot are not suitable candidates for implant application.

Things to Do Before Implant

A detailed examination is performed before the implant and radiography images are evaluated. After the necessary measurements are made on the x-ray, the size and diameter of the implant to be used and the area where it will be applied are decided.

It is important for the patient to have good oral hygiene before implantation. If necessary, oral hygiene should be provided with dental cleaning, treatment of gum diseases and treatment of decayed teeth.

If the patient has a systemic disease, necessary precautions should be taken in line with the directions of the relevant doctors.

How long does the implant treatment?

It takes an average of 10 minutes for a dental implant to be placed in the jawbone. In suitable patient groups, temporary prostheses can be placed on the same day as the implant immediately after the implant surgery. In the standard procedure, there is a waiting period of 2 months for implants applied to the lower jaw after implant surgery and 3 months for implants applied to the upper jaw. In patient groups where bone support is insufficient and advanced surgical techniques are applied (such as bone grafting, sinus lifting), the waiting period may be up to 6 months.

Things to Consider After Implant Treatment

Although a dental implant is a simple operation, it requires special care after surgery, as in any surgery. Your dentist and assistants will find necessary advice for you so that you do not feel pain and pain after the implant procedure and have a good healing process. The issues you need to pay attention to after the implant are as follows;

For the first two days after the surgical procedure, an external ice compress should be applied to the operation area. Apply for 10 minutes and rest for 5 minutes.

If a buffer is applied after the implant, the buffer should be kept in place for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the tampon should be discarded and nothing else should be put in its place.

You should not gargle for one day after the implant. Afterwards, antiseptic mouthwashes can be used. Care should be taken not to pressurize while gargling.

You can brush your teeth 24 hours after the implant application. The seams should not be brushed, but adjacent teeth can be carefully brushed.

After the numbness after the operation, eating and drinking can be done. Very hard foods and hot foods should be avoided.

If there are medications recommended by your doctor, they should be used regularly.

Protein-based foods should be consumed to accelerate post-implant recovery.

Consumption of milk and dairy products should be restricted during the one-week period until the stitches are removed.

Contact of hard foods to the implanted area should be avoided.

Care should be taken not to do strenuous exercises after the implant.

Implant Treatment in Single Tooth Missing

Tooth deficiencies negatively affect both the health and social life of the person. With the correct treatment of tooth deficiencies, health and comfort can be regained.

In the past years, crown bridges and jaw prostheses could be applied with traditional methods to eliminate tooth deficiencies. For the construction of crown bridges in the absence of teeth, the healthy teeth adjacent to the cavity must be cut and reduced. Bridges made by reducing the two adjacent teeth for a single missing tooth eliminates the missing tooth, but causes damage to the healthy teeth. Today, thanks to the developing technology, dental implants made of titanium can be placed in the jawbone and porcelain crowns placed on these artificial tooth roots can be removed without touching the neighboring teeth. Implants that replace the lost tooth get support from the jawbone and create a much more natural and healthy chewing, speaking and appearance. For all these reasons, dental implants are the most accurate treatment for missing teeth.

Implant Treatment in Multiple Tooth Missing

In cases where more than one tooth is lost, plans are made according to the size of the edentulous and implants are placed. The problem of missing teeth is solved by preparing suitable prostheses on the implants placed. In cases where two or more teeth are lost side by side, an implant is placed in the tooth area corresponding to the beginning and end of the cavity, and a bridge is made over these implants, and a large number of missing teeth can be eliminated with this method. Since implants are supported by the jawbone, they provide a chewing function close to natural teeth.

Implant Treatment in Complete Edentosis

People can lose all their teeth in the mouth for different reasons. The treatment of complete edentulism as a result of this situation can be done with dental implants. Full dentures made with the traditional method are not comfortable in terms of function and may adversely affect the person’s nutrition, general health status and social life. In the past years, full dentures have been used frequently in the removal of edentulism and in gaining aesthetic function and phonation (speech) to patients. Using full dentures has many disadvantages for the patient. The fact that they are mobile, cause wounds on the palate that we call punctures, get food residues under them, dislodge while eating or talking can negatively affect people’s lives. Today, with the development of technology, it has become possible to make implant-supported fixed prosthesis for edentulous patients.

For each jaw, 4-8 implants are placed in the jawbone according to the structure of the jawbone and the shape of the planned prosthesis. Maximum comfort and aesthetics are provided with fixed prostheses prepared in accordance with the implants.

When we have to apply fewer implants for some reasons, it is also possible to make implant-supported removable prostheses. With the help of the support from the implant, it is aimed to make the removable prosthesis more comfortable.

All On Four

It is a treatment method that allows us to perform fixed dental prosthesis on the same day with a single surgical procedure in case of complete edentulism. It can be applied to all patients who do not have any systemic disease that may interfere with dental implant treatment and have sufficient bone mass. All on Four implant technique is planned by making necessary measurements with the help of computerized tomography after clinical and radiological examinations of the patient. After 4 dental implants are applied to the lower or upper jaw on the first day of the treatment, a temporary dental prosthesis is fixed on the dental implants on the same day. After 3 months, a permanent dental prosthesis is applied to the patient. After the procedure, the temporary dental prosthesis fixed on the implant quickly provides the comfort of the patient. Since the number of dental implants used is low and the graft application does not require advanced surgical procedures such as sinus lift, their costs are lower. The number of required treatment sessions is small. It is also a suitable treatment for patients coming from out of town.

The All on Four technique allows fixed prosthesis to be made with 4 implants placed at certain angles in the anterior region in cases where there is not enough bone volume to place implants in the posterior regions of the jaws. It is possible for edentulous patients to have fixed and aesthetic teeth quickly with the All on Four technique.

Implant Treatment in 1 Day

Implant treatment in 1 day is the process of making implants and coatings in a single session. During the first examination, treatment is planned by tomography and x-ray. If there is a tooth that needs to be extracted, it is extracted and the implant is placed in line with the planning. Temporary teeth are fixed on the implant placed on the same day. It is a preferred treatment method due to its rapid results. It enables the person to quickly gain functions such as speech, aesthetics, eating and drinking.

It is a treatment method that can be applied in patients with a single tooth, more than one tooth and complete tooth deficiency. However, in order to use this technique, the bone structure of the person must be suitable for implanting in one day.

What is Jaw Bone Powder (Bone graft)?

Bone grafts, known as bone powder, are obtained by different methods. Grafts of human origin, animal origin or synthetically produced can be in powder form or in block form. Bone grafts are used in cases where bone support is not sufficient in the area to be implanted. Depending on the amount of bone loss and the planned implant treatment, the appropriate method is preferred from different grafting techniques. While graft applications are applied in the same session with the implant in some cases, it may be preferred to apply the implant after the grafts are applied and the jawbone is brought to the desired volume and the grafts integrate with the tissue.
